Correspondence, 1850-1912 (bulk 1884-1903).

Letters, photograph, page of a manuscript, and obituary. Twenty letters to Stead, three ALsS and seventeen TLsS and a TLS fragment by him, chiefly concerning articles for the Pall Mall gazette and Review of reviews, and business connected with them. Some also refer to political and social issues in which Stead was interested. Correspondents include: William Arthur, the Earl of Balfour, George Bentley, Matilda Betham-Edwards, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt, Bramwell Booth, Josephine Butler, the Earl of Ellesmere, R.W. Dale, Frederic W. Farrar, Earl Grey, J. Seymour Keay, and John Sainsbury. Also present are a photograph of Stead; his obituary clipped from the Times, [18? April 1912]; the final page of an unidentified manuscript signed by him; and a letter from the Earl of Ellesmere to John Sainsbury, 13 June 1850, about Sainsbury's collection.

Wilfred Scawen Blunt was an English author and explorer. He was born in Sussex, and served in the diplomatic corps in Europe and South America.
